Uluwatu, Ubud or Canggu? Choosing Where in Bali to Get Married
Last updated 23 Oct 2026
The short answer by couple type
Where to get married in Bali depends on the setting you want. Choose Uluwatu or Jimbaran for clifftop sunsets and resorts that run everything, at the island's highest hotel rates. Choose Ubud for jungle, rice terraces and Balinese culture, with the longest airport drive. Choose Canggu or Tabanan for villa and beach-club parties on the lowest average room rates.

| Ubud | Jungle, river valleys, rice terraces | Riverside jungle resort (top 10) | IDR 3.6m (~US$201) | ~1–2 h; 2–2.5 h+ at peak | No ocean view; valleys and rice fields | Inland: plan a covered backup |

Uluwatu & Jimbaran: cliffs and resorts
This is Bali's cliff country, and the area our top 10 venues leans on most: seven of the ten are in Uluwatu or Jimbaran. Expect glass chapels, clifftop lawns and big resorts that run the ceremony, dinner and rooms under one roof.
- The trade-off: it's the most expensive area to sleep in, averaging IDR 4.8 million a night in 2025 (Horwath HTL).
- The plus side: it's close to the airport by Bali standards.
- Best for: sunset vows and couples who want the resort to handle everything.
Ubud: jungle, rice terraces, villas
This is Bali's green, inland heart: river valleys, rice paddies and temples. Our top 10 includes one Ubud venue, a riverside jungle resort (see it here).
- Rooms: they averaged IDR 3.6 million in 2025 (Horwath HTL).
- The catch is distance. Ubud is the furthest of the three from the airport, and vendors from the south often charge more to travel there, so ask each supplier for its travel fee in writing.
- Best for: cultural ceremonies and couples who'd rather have rice terraces than sea views.
Canggu & Tabanan: beach clubs and villas
Canggu is where private-villa and beach-club weddings happen. The style here is smaller, more DIY and more party.
- Rooms: Canggu & Tabanan averaged IDR 2.2 million in 2025, less than half the Uluwatu & Jimbaran rate (Horwath HTL).
- What's on the couple: at a villa you're responsible for the rain plan, banjar (village) fees and noise curfews. See our cost post for real villa terms.
- Best for: relaxed celebrations and couples who need affordable rooms for many guests.
Seminyak, Nusa Dua and the islands
- Seminyak: beachy, central and well stocked with hotels, averaging IDR 2.4 million in 2025 (Horwath HTL).
- Nusa Dua: polished, gated resort luxury. Two of our top 10 are there (top 10).
- The Nusa islands are possible, but every guest and vendor crosses by boat.
Traffic: the logistics problem nobody prices in
Bali's distances are short, but the roads are slow. Travel guides give these airport transfer times in normal traffic:
- Uluwatu: about 35–60 minutes
- Canggu: 45–75 minutes
- Ubud: 1–2 hours
At peak times, Ubud can stretch past 2–2.5 hours (Cabo Bali; Wayfar). What that means for your wedding:
- House guests near the venue, or budget for shuttles.
- Don't run guests across the island at late-afternoon rush hour just before a sunset ceremony.
- Include the area surcharge when comparing vendor quotes.
Best months by area
For the 2026/27 season, Bali's BMKG climatology station forecasts a late, short rainy season:
- Start: about 15% of Bali's 20 seasonal zones from late November 2026, and the other 85% during December 2026.
- Peak: February 2027 in 80% of zones (one zone in January, three in March).
- Intensity: most areas are forecast normal rainfall. Because the season is shorter, BMKG warns that rain may come in more intense bursts.
Sources: BMKG Bali, 2026/27 bulletin; BMKG national 2026/27 outlook; Periskop, 28 Sep 2026, quoting the BMKG Bali station.
What that means for each area:
- All areas: the months before the rains arrive carry the lowest risk.
- December to March: wherever you marry, book a venue with a covered or indoor option.
- Exposed cliff lawns in Uluwatu are worth a chapel or indoor backup in those months.
- Central Bali is forecast a longer wet season than the coasts, so Ubud weddings should plan for rain.
This is a seasonal outlook and BMKG updates it, so check the current BMKG outlook as your date approaches.

FAQ
What's the best area in Bali for a wedding?
It depends on what you want:
- Uluwatu/Jimbaran for cliffs and resorts.
- Ubud for jungle and culture.
- Canggu/Tabanan for villas and the lowest average room rate of the main areas (IDR 2.2m in 2025, per Horwath HTL).
Uluwatu or Ubud for a wedding?
Uluwatu for ocean sunsets, resort convenience and a shorter airport run. Ubud for greenery and Balinese culture, with a longer drive and slightly lower room rates (IDR 3.6m vs 4.8m in 2025).
Is a jungle or an ocean wedding better in Bali?
Neither is better. Ocean (Uluwatu, Jimbaran, Canggu) gives you sunsets and sea views. Jungle (Ubud) gives you shade, rivers and rice terraces. Choose on guest logistics as much as on the look.
How far is Uluwatu or Ubud from Bali airport?
Uluwatu is about 35–60 minutes (up to ~1.5 h at peak). Ubud is about 1–2 hours (2–2.5 h+ at peak). These are travel-guide estimates.
When is the rainy season in Bali, and does it affect cliff venues?
For 2026/27, BMKG forecasts the rains to start in late November or December 2026 and peak in February 2027, in a shorter season with more intense bursts. Exposed cliff lawns are the most affected, so make sure your venue has a covered alternative.
