Most Affordable Asian Countries for a Wedding Abroad (2026)
On published 2026 resort prices, the Philippines and Vietnam are the most affordable places in Asia for a 50-guest destination wedding: about US$4,300 for a ceremony and guest dinner at Belmont Hotel Boracay, and about US$5,200 at Pullman Danang. Sri Lanka (about US$7,350–8,250) and Bali (about US$7,100–11,000) follow, then Thailand (about US$13,400). None of those figures includes your guests' rooms.
Most "cheapest destination wedding" lists give you a range per country and no source. The ranges disagree wildly because they are not counting the same thing: one includes rooms, one is vendors only, one is for 20 guests and another for 100. So this comparison does it differently. Every number below is a named venue's own published price, for the same thing, and you can click through to the price list.
How we compared
- Same wedding everywhere: a ceremony plus one meal for 50 guests. Guest rooms are left out of the comparison and covered separately below, because they are often the largest line.
- One real venue per country: not an average. Each price comes from the resort's own package or price list, checked on 8 October 2026.
- Taxes as the venue states them. Where a price is quoted "++", we add the charges that apply in that country and say so.
- One exchange rate source: the U.S. Treasury's Reporting Rates of Exchange for 30 September 2026. The local-currency figures are the real ones; the dollar figures move with the rate.
The comparison
| Country (venue) | Ceremony + meal for 50 | What the price covers | Legal for two foreigners? |
|---|---|---|---|
| Philippines (Belmont Hotel Boracay) | PHP 269,500 net ≈ US$4,300 | Venue for 5 hours, guest buffet, cake, basic styling, rooms for the couple; no officiant listed | Yes, with paperwork and a 10-day posting |
| Vietnam (Pullman Danang) | VND 134,500,000 net ≈ US$5,200 | Ceremony setup, celebrant, coordinator, cake, buffet or set dinner | No, unless one of you holds a Vietnamese residence permit |
| Sri Lanka (Jetwing, Taru Villas) | ≈ US$7,350–8,250 | Ceremony package with registration, plus a guest dinner at published per-head rates | Yes, after 4 days in the country |
| Bali, Indonesia (Aksari, Plataran Ubud) | IDR 127.7–197.0 million ≈ US$7,100–11,000 | Ceremony and a reception buffet for 50, with 21% service and tax added | Only if you share a religion |
| Thailand (Banyan Tree Krabi) | THB 450,000 nett ≈ US$13,400 | Ceremony for 50 plus the reception venue's minimum food and drink spend | Yes, registered at a district office |
| China (Yangshuo, near Guilin) | ¥120,440 ≈ US$18,000 | Full decoration build, ceremony platform, 5-table banquet, 5-person crew | No |
| Malaysia (Pelangi Beach Resort, Langkawi) | MYR 16,999 nett ≈ US$4,200 (no guest meal) | Ceremony package for up to 50; guest food and drink not included | Yes, for non-Muslims, after about 30 days |
Two warnings before you read the table as a ranking. First, these are entry packages, and they buy different amounts of wedding. The China figure is the most expensive partly because it is the most complete: it is a real quotation for a fully produced day, with a twelve-person build team and a photographer, videographer, makeup artist and host, where most resort packages include little more than a decorated setting and a celebrant. Second, Malaysia has no full figure because no Langkawi resort we found publishes a current per-head price for guest catering, and we will not invent one.
The cost nobody puts in the table: your guests' rooms
Almost every comparison leaves accommodation out. That is fine for a wedding where guests drive home, and wrong for one where they fly in. In the one fully itemised quote we have, a 50-guest wedding in Yangshuo, 28 rooms for two nights came to ¥150,000 of a ¥270,440 total: 55%. Take the rooms out and that wedding costs ¥120,440.
What rooms cost elsewhere, where a source publishes it:
- Boracay: Belmont Hotel's wedding group rate is PHP 3,300–7,000 net a room per night (about US$53–112), against published rates of PHP 13,500–24,500.
- Bali: the island's average hotel rate in 2025 was IDR 2.35 million a night (about US$132), from IDR 2.2 million in Canggu to IDR 4.8 million in Jimbaran and Uluwatu (Horwath HTL, March 2026).
- Phuket: luxury and upscale hotels averaged THB 6,820 a night (about US$203) in the first half of 2026 (Cushman & Wakefield).
- Sri Lanka: Taru Villas' Long House in Bentota starts at US$3,400 a night for 18 guests, bed and breakfast, as a whole-villa booking (Outlook Traveller, updated 20 August 2026).
Several resorts also make rooms a condition of the wedding. Banyan Tree Krabi requires a minimum of 2 nights in 5 rooms; InterContinental Phuket requires 10 room nights in normal season and 15 in high season. Ask about this before you compare packages, because it changes the real price of the cheaper ones.
Philippines: the lowest published price, and the best US flights
Price. Belmont Hotel Boracay's Sundial package is PHP 269,500 net for 50 guests (about US$4,300), with extra adults at PHP 3,500 net each. It covers five hours of the ballroom or beach, a buffet for guests, a cake and basic styling, but lists no officiant, so budget for one. Its two higher tiers are PHP 352,550 and PHP 429,000 net for 50. The proposal has no year printed on it, so confirm it is current when you enquire. In Cebu, Shangri-La Mactan lists its ceremony at PHP 125,000 and buffets at PHP 4,500–4,850 a guest for 50 or more, "subject to a 10% service charge and applicable government taxes" and valid until 31 December 2026. For 50 guests that is PHP 385,000–404,250 before government taxes, about US$6,100–6,500.
Legal. Two foreigners can marry legally. Each needs a certificate of legal capacity to marry from their own embassy, the application is posted publicly for 10 days, and the licence is then valid for 120 days (Family Code of the Philippines, Articles 17, 20 and 21). British nationals need an apostilled UK certificate of no impediment (GOV.UK). The Family Code issues the licence where "either contracting party habitually resides", so confirm with the local civil registrar how they handle two visitors.
Getting there. Philippine Airlines flies nonstop from Los Angeles (18 flights a week since 1 June 2026, per PortCalls), San Francisco, Seattle and New York. There is no nonstop from London. Boracay is a domestic connection from Manila.
When. The dry season runs December to May and the rainy season June to November; most tropical cyclones form July to October (PAGASA).
Vietnam: cheap, well connected, but symbolic only
Price. Pullman Danang's Blissful Beginnings package is VND 70,500,000 net for 10 guests, plus VND 1,600,000 net for each additional guest (Pullman Danang). For 50 guests that is VND 134,500,000, about US$5,200, including an English-speaking celebrant, a coordinator, a cake and a buffet or set dinner. On Phu Quoc, La Veranda's 2026 brochure prices its Classic buffet at VND 2,882,000++ a guest (from 40 guests) and the ceremony service at VND 85,000,000++: VND 229,100,000 for 50 before service charge and VAT, about US$8,800. Vietnam's reduced 8% VAT rate runs to 31 December 2026 (DFDL).
Legal. Plan on a symbolic ceremony. The U.S. Embassy says Vietnamese law does "not regulate marriages between two non-Vietnamese citizens, unless at least one of the two foreigners has permanent or temporary resident permit" (U.S. Embassy in Vietnam, updated 22 August 2025). New Zealand's embassy puts it more strictly: Vietnamese law does not provide for it "unless the two foreigners have been living in Viet Nam for a long period of time and both have valid Resident Permits" (New Zealand Ministry of Foreign Affairs). Either way, as visitors you register at home, then celebrate in Vietnam.
Getting there. Vietnam Airlines flies nonstop San Francisco to Ho Chi Minh City, the only U.S. nonstop, in about 15 hours 40 minutes (Vietnam Airlines), and London Heathrow to Hanoi and Ho Chi Minh City. Vietjet flies daily from Sydney and Melbourne to Ho Chi Minh City. Da Nang and Phu Quoc are a short domestic hop.
When. The rainy season is June to September in the north and south, and October to December in central Vietnam, where Da Nang and Hoi An are (UK Foreign Office, updated 21 September 2026).
Sri Lanka: legal, and priced per couple
Price. Sri Lankan resorts price the ceremony per couple and the guests separately. Jetwing Vil Uyana's packages are US$1,850, US$2,250 and US$2,750 per couple, including registration fees, the marriage certificate and its translation (Jetwing). For guests, Taru Villas publishes wedding meals "starting from USD 110 per person, inclusive of taxes" (Outlook Traveller). Those two together, for 50 guests, come to about US$7,350–8,250: a ceremony package at one resort and a published dinner rate at another, so treat it as a guide and ask your venue for both lines. Sri Lanka's VAT has been 18% since January 2024 (Daily FT), and Jetwing's page does not say whether its prices include it, so ask.
Legal. Two foreigners can marry legally. If neither has been in Sri Lanka for the 10 days before giving notice, one must have been there for 4 days; the usual 14-day wait can be shortened with a special licence (Registrar General's Department). Ask the Registrar whether its security-clearance step applies to you: it is written for a Sri Lankan marrying a foreigner, but some missions apply it to foreign couples too.
Getting there. SriLankan Airlines flies nonstop from London Heathrow and from Melbourne, which has been 10 flights a week since 2 August 2026 (SriLankan Airlines). There is no U.S. nonstop; you connect through the Gulf.
When. The southwest coast is at its best December to April, and the east coast May to September (Sri Lanka Tourism).
Bali: where "++" means 21%
Price. Aksari Resort Ubud's Amethyst Signature package is IDR 63,000,000++ for up to 50 guests, with a buffet dinner from IDR 850,000++ a guest (Aksari). Plataran Ubud lists a wedding reception "from IDR 137,800,000++" with a buffet for 50 and a ceremony "from IDR 25,000,000++" (Plataran). In Bali, "++" is a 10% service charge plus a 10% regional hotel and restaurant tax charged on top of it, which compounds to 21%. Hotel food and rooms pay that regional tax, not VAT (Indonesian tax office; Law 1/2022, Article 58). With it, a ceremony and buffet for 50 come to IDR 127,655,000 at Aksari (about US$7,100) and IDR 196,988,000 at Plataran (about US$11,000). Our Bali cost guide has the full breakdown. Foreign guests also pay Bali's IDR 150,000 tourist levy on arrival.
Legal. A legal wedding is possible only if you share one of Indonesia's recognised religions: you hold a religious ceremony, then register it with the civil registry (Australian Embassy Jakarta). The registration itself is free by law. Most couples register at home and hold a symbolic ceremony in Bali; see our guide to Bali wedding laws.
Getting there. Bali is the easy one from Australia, with nonstops from several Australian cities on Virgin Australia and Jetstar (Australian Frequent Flyer). From the U.S. and U.K., expect one stop.
When. The dry season runs roughly April to October; Indonesia's weather agency expected a drier-than-normal 2026 dry season. EverVows plans Bali weddings with Nicky Almeida: tell her what you have in mind.
Thailand: more included, more charged
Price. Banyan Tree Krabi's Unity Western ceremony is THB 150,000 nett with 50 guests included, and its Naga Kitchen sets a minimum food and drink spend of THB 300,000 nett for an evening reception. Prices include the resort's 18.7% tax and service. Together that is THB 450,000, about US$13,400, and the minimum spend is a floor, not a menu. In Phuket, InterContinental's Ultimate Wedding is THB 490,000++ for up to 50, about THB 576,730 with charges, and includes a canapé reception but no dinner. Thailand's standard stack is a 10% service charge plus 7% VAT, 17.7% in all; the 7% rate is extended to 30 September 2027 (HLB Thailand).
Legal. Two foreigners can marry legally, but not at the resort: the resort ceremony is symbolic. The legal step is a certificate from your embassy, a Thai translation, authentication by Thailand's Department of Consular Affairs, then registration at any district office (Australian Embassy Bangkok).
When. On the Andaman coast (Krabi, Phuket), November to March; the Gulf coast (Koh Samui) is wettest October to December (Thai Meteorological Department).
China: the most complete number, and not a legal wedding
Our own planner's quotation for a 50-guest wedding at a riverside hotel in Yangshuo, near Guilin, is ¥120,440 before rooms (about US$18,000) and ¥270,440 with 28 rooms for two nights (about US$40,300). It is the only figure here that is a full production rather than an entry package; the line-by-line breakdown shows what each yuan buys. Two foreign citizens cannot register a marriage in mainland China, so this is a symbolic wedding after registering at home; here is why. What Guilin gives you instead is the karst landscape at 153 metres, three hours by train from Hong Kong. Our Guilin guide covers it, and Sunny, our planner there, reads every brief herself.
Malaysia: legal, but a long stay
Pelangi Beach Resort in Langkawi publishes a ceremony package at MYR 16,999 nett for up to 50 people (about US$4,200), but it does not include food or drink for your guests, and we found no current per-head catering price to complete the figure. Malaysia is unusual in allowing two foreign non-Muslims to marry legally, but the National Registration Department requires 7 consecutive days in the country before you apply, then a 21-day public notice, so roughly a month in all (JPN).
What to ask any venue before you compare
- Is the price net, or "++"? And which charges does "++" mean here? It is 17.7% in Thailand and 21% in Bali.
- How many guests does the package include, and what does each extra guest cost?
- Is there a minimum room booking or a minimum food and drink spend?
- Does the price include a meal for the guests, or only the ceremony?
- Is the ceremony legal or symbolic? Most resort ceremonies in this list are symbolic.
Frequently asked questions
What is the cheapest country in Asia for a destination wedding?
On published 2026 resort prices for 50 guests, the Philippines and Vietnam: about US$4,300 for a ceremony and buffet at Belmont Hotel Boracay, and about US$5,200 at Pullman Danang, both before guest rooms.
How much does a 50-guest destination wedding in Asia cost?
For a ceremony and one guest meal, from about US$4,300 (Boracay) to about US$13,400 (Krabi) at the resorts compared here, before guest rooms. In a fully itemised quote for Yangshuo, guest rooms were 55% of the total.
Can two foreigners legally marry in these countries?
In the Philippines, Sri Lanka, Thailand and Malaysia, yes, with paperwork and in Malaysia about a month's stay. In Bali, only if you share a recognised religion. In Vietnam and mainland China, not as two visitors. Most couples register at home and hold a symbolic ceremony abroad.
Do these prices include accommodation?
No. Rooms are usually the largest single cost of a destination wedding and some resorts require a minimum booking, such as 2 nights in 5 rooms at Banyan Tree Krabi.
Why is Bali's "++" 21% and Thailand's 17.7%?
Bali adds a 10% service charge and then a 10% regional tax on the total. Thailand adds a 10% service charge and 7% VAT.

Can You Legally Get Married in China? What It Means for a Guilin or Lijiang Wedding
Since 1 April 2019, two foreign citizens cannot register a marriage in China — and because China does not recognise dual nationality, \"I was born there\" may not make you Chinese. What that means for a wedding in Guilin or Lijiang, and the sequence that works.
