Guilin and Yangshuo Wedding Venues for Couples Coming From Abroad
Last updated 23 Oct 2026
The short answer: city centre or the river?
Choose Guilin city if you're bringing a big family, want most guests under one roof and need a ballroom ready for rain. Choose Yangshuo if the karst peaks and the Li River are the point of the trip; smaller resorts put that landscape right behind your vows. Yangshuo is about 1.5 hours by road from Guilin (EverVows China).
You've picked Guilin. The next decision shapes everything else: the guest rooms, the transfers, the rain plan and the photos. This guide sets out seven real wedding venues in Guilin and Yangshuo to consider, compared on the things that actually decide a destination wedding. Facts come from each venue's own published information, or from a labelled third-party listing where the venue publishes nothing, linked so you can check it. No venue pays to appear in this guide.
How we compared venues
For each venue we looked at:
- Capacity: the largest banquet the venue publishes, plus any outdoor ceremony space.
- Rooms on site: can most of your guests sleep where you marry?
- Ceremony setting: ballroom, garden, lawn or riverside.
- Drive from arrival points: Guilin Liangjiang International Airport and Guilin West high-speed rail station (the Hong Kong train arrives there, about three hours from West Kowloon, per our Guilin wedding guide).
- Rain plan: is there a covered or indoor space of the right size?
- Out-of-town surcharge: do Guilin-based crews charge extra to travel? On one real Yangshuo quote, the build team charged a daily transport fee for working out of town (¥270,440 quote). None of the venues below publishes a surcharge, so ask each venue and crew before you book.

Rooms are 55% of the bill: what that means for venue choice
On a real 2026 quote for 50 guests at a riverside hotel near Yangshuo, 28 rooms for two nights came to ¥150,000, or 55% of the ¥270,440 total (the full quote, line by line). So the venue question is really a rooms question:
- Everyone under one roof: in Yangshuo, that points to Banyan Tree (141 keys) or a package like AURUA's. In the city, any large hotel works.
- Small venues: Yangshuo Mountain Retreat (15 rooms) or a villa resort means a second hotel for guests, plus transfers.
- Who pays: decide whether you're covering rooms before you fall for a venue. It's the single biggest lever on the budget.
Weather and season by venue type
Guilin's rain is concentrated: April to June carries about half the year's rain, July and August are hot (around 28°C on average), and January is cool, with daily minimums near 6°C (Guilin wedding guide). What that means for each venue type:
- City ballrooms: weatherproof all year.
- Li River lawns and terraces: need a covered space big enough for every guest, booked at the same time as the lawn. Check that each Yangshuo venue's indoor space fits your number (Banyan Tree's ballroom seats 140).
- Winter: heating isn't a given indoors, so ask.

FAQ
What are the best wedding venues in Guilin for foreign couples?
It depends on guest count:
- For large families with a built-in rain plan: Shangri-La Guilin (roughly 440 rooms; up to 2,000 for a reception) or the Steigenberger (300 rooms, plus a wedding lawn listed by a third-party platform).
- For the Li River landscape: Banyan Tree Yangshuo (141 villas and suites; ballroom for 140).
- For small, private weddings: Kayumanis Yangshuo or Yangshuo Mountain Retreat.
Should we marry in Guilin city or Yangshuo?
Guilin city suits big guest lists, short transfers and weatherproof ballrooms. Yangshuo suits couples who want the karst landscape in the ceremony, and is roughly 1.5 hours away by road.
How far is Yangshuo from Guilin airport and from Guilin West station?
By car from the airport it's about 84–85 km, roughly 1–1.5 hours (China Highlights). The high-speed train from Guilin West to Yangshuo takes about 24 minutes (China Train Booking).
Can a Yangshuo venue host 50+ guests with rooms on site?
Yes:
- Banyan Tree Yangshuo has 141 villas and suites and a 140-seat ballroom.
- AURUA Sugar House sells a 50-person package with 25 room units for two nights (¥299,999).
- Smaller retreats need an overflow hotel.
What happens if it rains on a Li River lawn wedding?
You move to the venue's indoor space, so book it with the lawn. April–June is Guilin's wettest stretch. Confirm the indoor room fits everyone (e.g. Banyan Tree's ballroom seats 140).
